For students needing assistance with homework, North Middle School offers an after-school Homework Center Monday through Thursday from 3:40 until 4:40 p.m. Certified teachers are available during this time to assist students.
Zeros Aren't Permitted (ZAP)
The ZAP program is aimed at increasing expectations for students who fail to turn in their assignments by holding them accountable through mandatory Extended Learning Opportunity. ZAP is held Monday through Thursday, for one hour after school. During this time, students must complete any and all assignments that they have missed. Positive outcomes of the ZAP program include the following:
- Promotes responsibility and good work habits.
- Sets expectations.
- Emphasizes the importance of school work.
- Affects school climate by letting both parents and students know of the schools's high academic expectations.
- Improves grades.
- Helps instill the value of hard work and effort.
Boys and Girls Club of Joplin
The Boys and Girls Club provides an after-school program for children age 5-18 years old. Trained staff members help children develop their academic and social skills in a fun and diverse environment. Activities are designed for various age groups and skill levels to enhance growth and to encourage learning. The program is available to all area residents, and after-school transportation to the Boys and Girls Club is provided from several Joplin schools. A small fee is required for the program.
